Heiligenstadt (dpa / th) - Four people were slightly injured in a traffic accident with a horse-drawn carriage, including two children aged one and ten years.

The horses were also injured in the accident in Heiligenstadt in the Eichsfeld district on Sunday afternoon, a police spokeswoman said on Monday.

Those involved were taken to a hospital for examination.

There were no other injuries.

The police suspect that the horses shied away from the loud engine noises of a passing motorcycle and went through, whereupon the 43-year-old coach driver lost control of the team of horses. The carriage drove over a traffic island and hit a traffic sign. Then the team drove over the opposite lane, so that an oncoming unknown motorcyclist had to avoid and fell. The two children and a third inmate aged 18 jumped off the carriage at the direction of the 43-year-old.

In the further course the team drove into the left ditch.

The 43-year-old was thrown from the wagon and hit a street lamp.

After another 100 meters, the driverless team collided with the oncoming car of a 35-year-old and a traffic sign.
