Offenbach / Waghäusel (dpa) - On the first day of early summer after a long cool phase, it was the hottest nationwide on Sunday in Waghäusel in Baden-Württemberg near Karlsruhe.

The thermometer showed 31.3 degrees there, said a spokesman for the German Weather Service (DWD).

That was the hottest value for the decade from May 1st to May 10th at this DWD measuring station since 1986.

It was coldest on Sunday with a maximum of 5.8 degrees on the Zugspitze.

It remained relatively cool on Heligoland with 15.1 degrees.

The second warmest place on Sunday was also in the southwest: According to the meteorologist, 30.6 degrees were measured in Bad Mergentheim.
