Hanover (dpa / lni) - An 18-year-old lost control of his car near Bennigsen near Hanover and caused a life-threatening accident.

As the police announced on Sunday, he was on the road 402 with a companion of the same age when he turned off the wet road, presumably because of excessive speed, and drove head-on into a tree.

The driver was able to escape seriously injured from the vehicle wreck, his passenger was trapped and had to be rescued by the fire brigade.

The young woman was flown to hospital with an ambulance helicopter due to her life-threatening injuries, and the 18-year-old was also taken to a clinic in an ambulance.

The L402 was temporarily fully blocked for use on Saturday evening.

The police are investigating the driver for negligent bodily harm and estimate the damage to property at around 8,000 euros.
