Dresden (dpa / sn) - The number of evictions in Saxony has increased by five percent in 2020, according to the left parliamentary group.

According to the answer from the Ministry of Justice to the parliamentary group's request, 3598 eviction orders, 150 more than in the previous year, were issued and in 2613 housing spaces were evacuated.

There are no figures for comparison from previous years.

"It is a scandal that the number of evictions was so high despite the four-month factual eviction ban in 2020," criticized MEP Juliane Nagel.

Her parliamentary group is calling, among other things, for protective mechanisms for tenants in the pandemic, “but also to ban evictions in principle”.

In addition, the municipalities would have to be supported "to take all means against loss of housing and homelessness".
