Munich (dpa / lby) - Even if a spontaneous selfie with “Prince Charming” may have cost him his dream job, a gay ex-priesthood candidate from Munich does not regret the photo in his own words.

"I think it is important, especially in this day and age, to simply show your colors and just stand up for that and stand up for the people who are important to you," said the 21-year-old Henry Frömmichen of the German press agency on Sunday after one Blessing service for same-sex couples in Munich.

"I think this is especially important for the young people who simply see: Okay, there is someone who may be gay, but he wants to go this way, wants to become a priest."

Frömmichen's case hit the headlines at the end of April. After his portrayal, he was kicked out of the Munich seminary after its director discovered the photo of Frömmichen and Alexander Schäfer, the "Prince Charming" from the gay dating show of the same name, on Instagram. "In this context, the seminar leader accused me of showing solidarity with homosexual people and promoting the kind of homosexuality that is being portrayed on television," said Frömmichen.

The Archdiocese of Munich and Freising did not want to comment on the reasons why the young man had to leave the seminary.

Likewise, the seminar leader Wolfgang Lehner.

But he emphasized: "If someone is homosexual, but manages to calmly develop a healthy relationship with men and women, if this topic of sexuality is not constantly in the foreground, I see no reason why he should not become a priest can be."
