Hanover (dpa / lni) - As a result of the corona pandemic, the Lower Saxony Ministry of Finance is expecting tax losses of more than two billion euros for this year alone, according to a newspaper report.

"What we have paid out so far in connection with the Corona crisis is only part of the costs," said Finance Minister Reinhold Hilbers (CDU) of the "Hannoversche Allgemeine Zeitung" (Monday).

In the special fund set up especially for this purpose, a further 3.8 billion euros are planned for measures to cushion the negative consequences of the pandemic.

The May tax estimate figures will be released this week.

According to the report, Lower Saxony has so far spent 2.1 billion euros to cope with the crisis - mainly for health protection and economic aid.

The largest item - around 1.1 billion euros - was therefore made available to support the municipalities.

A lot of money was also spent on financial aid for companies and on purchasing protective equipment.
