In Lugnvik outside Östersund, the scouts have gathered in the meadow by Storsjön.

- We will divide into different groups and do different tasks, says Ole Rönning Kristiansson who is one of the leaders in Östersund Frösö scout corps.

Children stand in line

As SVT previously reported, sports activities among young people have decreased during the pandemic.

At the same time, there are other organizations that are seeing a boom.

last year, the Scouts gained 3,000 more members.

- We have had a steady increase now for a few years but the culmination now came during the pandemic.

We see this nationally and we also see it locally, says Ole Rönning Kristiansson.

The great interest has meant that just over 50 children are currently standing in line at Östersund Frösö scout corps.

New local clubs formed

But it is not just the Scouts who see a real influx.

In 2020, Friluftsfrämjandet had 19 percent more members than the year before and the greatest interest was among children.

The Swedish Forest and Youth Association and the Field Biologists also state that they see a strong increase in interest.

The field biologists state that this has led to new local clubs, among other things.

- Since the pandemic began, we have opened 15 new local clubs, says Leo Rudberg who is chairman of the Field Biologists.

That is more than doubling the number of clubs.

Fältbiologerna now has 25 local clubs around Sweden.

"Want to try something new"

In Lugnvik, young people are not surprised by the increased interest.

- Many people like to try something new and then outdoor life has become very popular, says Linnea Kalitta.

In the video above, you can hear where she and her friends like to join the Scouts.
