China News Service, Beijing, May 9. Wang Yi, Chinese State Councilor and Foreign Minister, had a phone conversation with Sudanese Foreign Minister Mariam on May 8.
Mariam thanked China for its strong support for Sudan's fight against the epidemic, and said that the friendship between Sudan and China has a long history. The relationship between the two countries is based on mutual respect. China has played a huge role and made important contributions to promoting Sudan's economic and social development.
The Soviet side hopes to strengthen strategic coordination with China, continue to expand cooperation between the two countries in the fields of economy, culture, education, and sports, deepen infrastructure cooperation under the "Belt and Road" initiative, and promote greater development of bilateral relations.
Mariam expounded Sudan's position on the issue of dam rehabilitation and introduced the upcoming international conference in Paris to support Sudan's transformation.
Wang Yi congratulated Mariam on taking office as foreign minister and said that the current domestic political transition in Sudan is developing steadily, and obstacles to external development are gradually lifted.
China has always viewed and developed China-Soviet relations from a long-term perspective, and will continue to be committed to developing a strategic partnership with Sudan.
Wang Yi said that China will firmly support the Sudanese people in exploring a development path that suits its own national conditions, support the Sudanese side in safeguarding national sovereignty, independence and territorial integrity, oppose any external forces interfering in the internal affairs of the Sudan, and will continue to speak up for Sudanese friends on international occasions.
He appreciates the Sudan’s clear-cut support for China on major issues related to China, such as Xinjiang, Hong Kong, and human rights.

China encourages and supports powerful Chinese companies to invest in Sudan, supports Sudan's active participation in the joint construction of the "Belt and Road", and opens up new prospects for cooperation between the two countries.
China will send representatives to participate in the International Conference to Support Sudan's Transformation in Paris, France.
China is willing to continue to help and support the Soviet side in thoroughly defeating the epidemic.
Wang Yi said that on the issue of the Renaissance Dam, dialogue and consultation are the best way to solve the problem.
