The US Navy's Fifth Fleet said that the guided missile cruiser USS Monterey seized an illegal arms shipment from an unknown dhow in international waters in the North Arabian Sea on May 6.

The Bahrain-based fleet said in a statement that the arms shipment "included dozens of Russian-made anti-tank guided missiles, thousands of Chinese Type 56 assault rifles, hundreds of PKM machine guns, sniper rifles, and launch pads." Rocket-propelled grenades, as well as advanced sighting tools.

The statement said that the shipment is currently in the possession of the US authorities, while its source and destination are still under investigation.

"After confiscating all the illegal cargo, the boat was reviewed and its seaworthiness was reviewed, and the team was provided with food and water after being questioned before being released," the statement said.
