May 9th is the anniversary of the victory of the Patriotic War in Kazakhstan. Affected by the new crown pneumonia epidemic, the government cancelled various large-scale commemorative projects. This is the second consecutive year that the country has cancelled related celebrations.

Although the people could not participate in the celebration as usual, many people spontaneously came to the city square in the center of Nur-Sultan to present a bunch of carnations to the soldiers who died in the war.

On the square, there are many children dressed up as Soviet soldiers, holding pictures of their loved ones sacrificed in the Great Patriotic War. Under the leadership of their parents, they come to the square to commemorate the merits of their parents and grandfathers.
