Munich (AP) - Karl-Heinz Rummenigge has expressed the hope that FC Bayern Munich can receive the championship trophy in front of the audience after the last game of the season against FC Augsburg on May 22nd.

"We miss the fans," said the Bayern boss after the Munich team won the 31st title early on Saturday evening in the ZDF sports studio: "I hope and wish that we might even be able to play here in front of a few spectators at the last game."

Rummenigge's vague hope is apparently based on the falling number of corona infections in Munich and the increase in vaccinations. The 65-year-old would also want fans in the stadium because the game against Augsburg will be a big farewell day. "In the last game we had to say goodbye to important players who did great things for FC Bayern, such as David Alaba, Jérôme Boateng and Javi Martínez." The three professionals have twice won the triple with Bayern and will leave the club free of charge.

"And you mustn't forget, it is Hansi Flick's last game as coach," added Rummenigge after the 6-0 win in the penultimate home game on Saturday evening against Borussia Mönchengladbach.

"It would be great if a couple of spectators could be there and then give these great people their applause," said the Munich CEO.

Due to Corona, Bayern have had to play all home games as ghost games without an audience this season.
