Hamburg (dpa / lno) - The women's hockey team at the Club an der Alster Hamburg was disappointed with the missed title defense.
"It is of course bitter to be left empty-handed after almost two years," said coach Jens George after the semi-finals on Saturday in the DM final against Düsseldorf HC with 2: 3 (0: 0) after a penalty shootout.
The season that began in September 2019 was not canceled despite the 2020 corona pandemic and continued this spring.
However, the Alster women were the only team of seven Hamburg quarter-finalists for women and men that had qualified for the joint final in Mannheim.
As in the final in 2019 and the year before in the semifinals against the DHC, no team was able to win the duel in regular time.
After Alster twice had the upper hand in penalty shootouts, the team had to admit defeat after misses by Hannah Gablac, Felicia Wiedermann and Lisa Altenburg.
However, George did not want to fix the end to it.
«We just weren't able to score a goal here in 60 minutes.
There were enough chances through corners and also out of the field. "
The DHC defended its own circle very well.
"And they had an outstanding goalkeeper in Natalie Kubalski."
