Munich (dpa) - In the English Garden in Munich, a dispute between party people and the police has escalated after the police were shown.

Young people threw around 50 bottles in the direction of the police, injuring 19 officers, a police spokesman said on Sunday.

The spokesman did not initially say whether there had been violations of hygiene requirements to protect against corona.

At the "party hotspot" in the Englischer Garten there was a fight on Saturday, a police spokesman said on Sunday.

Videos were previously circulated on social networks that are supposed to show the incident.

There you can also see bottles being thrown at the police from a large group of young people.

The police said they used pepper spray and batons.

A total of six people were arrested.

You are now expecting, among other things, charges of assault and breach of the peace.

Interior Minister Joachim Herrmann (CSU) showed incomprehension for the riot. "I can understand very well that people are drawn to the outside in the beautiful weather and warm temperatures," he said on Sunday. "However, I cannot understand the behavior of people who do not adhere to any regulations, as happened yesterday in the Englischer Garten." The riots in the English Garden and the willingness to use violence against police officers stunned him.

"It is frightening and completely unacceptable that those who protect us are injured themselves," said Herrmann.

"We cannot and will not tolerate that."

He lacks any understanding that bystanders have allied themselves with the attackers.

"The police will continue to act consistently against these troublemakers and the violent perpetrators affected will have to face the consequences."
