Many Gävle citizens were negative towards the EU - but the forest in Ljusdal was saved by union cooperation

57 percent of Swedes were positive about the EU when Statistics Sweden conducted the most recent survey, November 2020. In Gävleborg, the figure was lower.

Of the respondents, only 48 percent were positive here.

Regardless of what the county residents say, Hans Nornholm is convinced of the benefits of the union.

He was chief operating officer at Gästrike rescue service during the firefighting work during the major forest fires in 2018.

- EU cooperation was clearly decisive for how good the result was anyway. We would have had to put the boundary lines much further away and much more forest would have burned down without them. When there are major events, you help each other within the EU. We really got a receipt for 2018, says Hans Nornholm.
