Hanover (dpa / lni) - The precarious situation of seasonal workers and harvest workers in the corona pandemic will be the topic of the Greens parliamentary group in Lower Saxony on Tuesday.

In response to the larger corona outbreak on an asparagus farm in the Diepholz district, the party is calling, among other things, for testing every working day as long as the seasonal workers are not accommodated in single rooms.

The employers should bear the costs.

In Hanover, the MPs deal with the current Corona situation in the country in a special session (10:00 a.m.). "It must be expected that outbreaks will occur again and again if no action is taken," said the agricultural policy spokeswoman for the Greens, Miriam Staudte, of the German press agency. The party announced a motion for a resolution and an urgent question on Tuesday. The Greens also disrupts the use of work quarantine for seasonal workers.

According to the district, there were 104 active corona cases on the affected asparagus and berry farm in Asendorf last Tuesday.

The incidence rose to 143.3 and the district, as a high-incidence municipality, pulled the emergency brake with nightly exit restrictions and schools in online lessons.

The Greens are expecting further infections in the country because not only is the asparagus harvest running, but the strawberry season will also start shortly.

Greens spokeswoman Staudte referred to sales in the millions that the asparagus pickers make annually.

Even in the Corona year 2020, 26,600 tons of asparagus were harvested in Lower Saxony, which, according to her, corresponds to around 200 million euros.
