Wolfsburg (AP) - After the lost playoff final for the German ice hockey championship, the future of coach Pat Cortina is still open at the Grizzlys Wolfsburg.

The contract of the former national coach expires this year.

According to reports in the “Wolfsburger Nachrichten” and the “Wolfsburger Allgemeine Zeitung”, the former Cologne and Augsburg trainer Mike Stewart is also a possible alternative to the 56-year-old Canadian.

Cortina was criticized several times this season because Wolfsburg threatened to miss the playoffs during the preliminary round of the German Ice Hockey League.

The entry into the final is a great success despite the unfortunate defeat against the Eisbären Berlin.

"It's a shame we couldn't reward ourselves any more," said Cortina.

“But I'm proud of the team and the staff around us.

It's been an incredible journey, an incredible eight months.

We've had tough times, but we've come a long way. "
