The preliminary investigation results of the police indicated that the explosion in Male’, the capital of Maldives on the 6th, was a terrorist attack on Speaker Nasheed. Four suspects have been found.
According to the Maldives National Defense Forces, the attackers used improvised remote control explosive devices to launch a terrorist attack on Nasheed. The explosives were placed on a motorcycle parked near Nasheed’s house. Nasheed was about to enter when he came out of the house. In the car, the explosive device was detonated, Nasheed was injured and fell to the ground immediately. Three security guards and two passersby were slightly injured.
President Saleh of the Maldives delivered a special televised speech to the country on the 7th, strongly condemning the terrorist acts of the attackers, stating that the government pledged to bring the attackers to justice and take all measures to protect the safety of the people.
