Hamburg (dpa) - The German contribution to the Eurovision Song Contest (ESC) has not been so colorful, flashy and positive for a long time: Hamburg's Jendrik Sigwart (26) is going to Rotterdam in a few days (May 12) May the ESC final takes place. In his luggage he has his self-written song “I Don't Feel Hate”. However, Jendrik has to forego lavish parties and get-to-know events there due to the corona. At the moment, the musical performer trained in Osnabrück, Lower Saxony, is at home for a six-day quarantine, as he told the German Press Agency.

Even when you arrive in Rotterdam, the famous and popular ESC feeling will probably only come to a halt. The corona restrictions are very large. "We are only allowed to go from the hotel to the exhibition halls and back." Getting to know the other participants will therefore hardly be possible in Rotterdam. “I'm really happy that I have my friends with me on stage. Then at least we can somehow spend time together in the hotel. "

Jendrik hopes that they can perform in front of a few viewers as planned.

The alternative would otherwise be a recorded video that he and his friends had previously shot in Lithuania on an ESC-like stage under live conditions.

"I hope that we can perform live because we actually changed a few things after the video."

The planned appearance will be anything but calm.

«We do a lot.

The choreographer tweaked a few places to make it look even better.

This is how it is now. "

The story of Jendrik Sigwart and his way to the ESC reads almost like a fairy tale. So it has always been his dream to appear at the ESC. The man from Hamburg had already written several songs, but only produced one. There wasn't enough money for more. He posted short making-of videos of it online under the motto “How to make a music video” in social networks such as TikTok and Instagram and applied for the ESC. He made it into the German ESC selection and prevailed against the competition in front of a 20-person jury of experts and a 100-person jury of ESC fans - after all, more than 150 artists and 320 songs.

Which place he ends up in is not important to him. “My well-being does not depend on whether I come first or last. Of course I try to get first in a competition - because it's fun. " The ESC year 2021 is definitely strong. "I have a feeling there are more up-tempo songs this year because people feel like partying more." But there are also wonderful ballads and rock songs.

With his song “I Don't Feel Hate”, composed on a ukulele, he wants to advertise that disrespect should not be countered on the same level but in a friendly manner.

Jendrik is aware that his swirling song, which is a mix of many musical elements, polarizes.

"Either you like it a lot or you don't like it very much at all."

For him, the song has already served its purpose because it brought him to the ESC.
