Völklingen (dpa / lrs) - After a serious accident on the road 276 between Ludweiler and Karlsbrunn (Saarbrücken regional association), the police are looking for the vehicle occupants.

The car was on fire late Saturday evening, officials said on Sunday.

After the fire was extinguished, it could be ruled out that anyone was still in the burned-out and deformed vehicle.

It is unclear whether one or more people were in the car.

According to initial investigations, the car had left the road to the right after a right turn for an unexplained cause, collided with trees on the side of the road and came to a stop on the roof about ten meters away from the route in a stream.

It caught fire there.

Police, fire brigade and dog handlers searched the forest area along the road for allegedly seriously injured inmates.

The search, which also included a drone, was unsuccessful until Sunday morning, the police said.

Even a search for clues in the completely burned-out car did not reveal any evidence of identification.

The police are therefore looking for witnesses.
