The accident took place around 3 p.m. on Saturday.

A 55-year-old man fell 5 meters on his back in the Vauvougier well, in Malbrans, in the Doubs.

He was seriously injured, according to the local prefecture, which activated the Orsec emergency plan.

Since then, the speleologist has been blocked at a depth of 60 meters.

He is not alone.

Two of his colleagues are at his side.

"He was put in safety", still assures the prefecture by evoking a rescue "which will very probably require a lot of time".

This Sunday morning, about thirty cavers were still underground to unclog the cavity, reports L'Est Républicain.

"The evacuation of the victim will not be completed before midday," announced an official on site at the regional daily.
