Stuttgart / Tübingen (dpa) - Tübingen's mayor Boris Palmer himself had doubts about its authenticity when repeating a racist term from an alleged quote from national soccer player Dennis Aogo.

"Of course, it was clear to me that the Facebook allegations against Aogo, which I alluded to, are very likely a fake," said Palmer of the "image".

"My comment was a recognizably completely grotesque and insane accusation of racism against Aogo."

With his "ironic" statement he wanted to show that one could make such a reproach to anyone, no matter how constructed it was.

In a dispute on Facebook on Friday, Palmer had repeated the N-word with a sexualized context from a quote attributed to Aogo and commented, obviously ironically: "Aogo is a bad racist."

As a justification, he referred to a comment from an unverified Facebook account, which had put the alleged quote Aogo into the world.

The term N-Wort is used today to describe a racist term used in Germany for black people.

The Greens state party conference in Baden-Württemberg wants to decide - also against the background of earlier controversial statements - on Saturday on an exclusion procedure against the Tübingen mayor.
