Turn extreme technology into muscle memory

In the Bohai Bay in the late autumn of 2012, my country’s first aircraft carrier Liaoning was officially delivered to the Chinese Navy. At this moment, the whole country was jubilant. In the early winter of 2019, on Hainan Island, my country’s self-developed and designed aircraft carrier Shandong was officially in service in the South China Sea Fleet. Since then, China has become more confident. .

Ushering in the era of dual aircraft carriers is not only a milestone in the construction of naval equipment, but also an important sign that my country's military level has entered an international leading position.

On the steel giant ship, there is a group of "sea and air eagles", they "dance on the tip of the knife" every day, and every time they land on the ship is a battle of life and death, they are the carrier-based fighter pilots.

Wang Yong, the winner of the 25th "Chinese Youth May 4th Medal" and Navy special-class pilot, is one of them.

The road to the ship: the pursuit of the ultimate in technology

Every time the shipboard pilots land on the ship, there are dangers.

It took only a few seconds from the commander’s order to block the ship to the pilot’s rigging.

In these few seconds, it is hard to imagine how difficult it is to accurately land a fighter jet on the deck of an aircraft carrier that is only 200 meters under complicated sea conditions.

"You must pay attention to safety when you get on the plane and take care of yourself..." Even though he has been flying for 10 years, before every takeoff, Wang Yong's mother still has to tell.

"Every time I hook the wire rope accurately and do one thing to the extreme, I particularly like this feeling." When Wang Yong drove the J-15 carrier aircraft nicknamed "Flying Shark" and landed the ship proficiently again and again, Who would have thought that this seemingly easy landing action, he had practiced thousands of times before forming muscle memory.

Technically, pilots have to go through periods of ascent, flatness, repetition and collapse. “In fact, the most difficult thing is not how hard training is, but you have to overcome yourself and pass the psychological barrier.” Wang Yong said, in During the recurring period, he once doubted whether he was suitable for flying.

"But I firmly believe that I can do it, and I can do it well." It is this unwillingness to admit defeat that made Wang Yong and his comrades come up with various methods to train themselves. Some people "tied" themselves to the simulator repeatedly. In practice, someone flew for nearly a hundred hours just by landing on a subject.

There is no shortcut, only repeated practice. In the end, Wang Yong doesn't even need to look at the engine speed. As long as he puts his hand on the accelerator, he knows the speed, and pushes it to know how much speed has been changed.

Teaching Road: Cultivating Freshmen

In 2018, China’s aircraft carrier construction entered a period of acceleration, but the large-scale training of carrier-based aircraft pilots faced a series of problems: shortage of teaching resources, weak backbone...Wang, who has won the first place on the ship for two consecutive years, is in urgent need of employment. Yong received a new order-to join the carrier-based pilot training team.

"It is a soldier's bounden duty to obey orders." Although he was reluctant to give up on the blue sky, Wang Yong immediately rushed to a new position and devoted himself to the job of training a new generation of carrier-based pilots.

From actual combat to behind-the-scenes teaching, the change of roles also brought him more pressure.

Faced with difficulties such as foreign technical blockades, lack of independent experience, shortage of teaching materials, and lack of equipment resources, he did not complain or flinch. With the drill energy of "conquering flying sharks", he began to lead the team to explore and cultivate a new generation of ships. Plan to carry pilots.

Because of his rigorous teaching, the students called him "black-faced instructor."

"Everything harsh on them now is the guarantee of flight safety in the future. They will definitely thank me in the future." Although Wang Yong is often "black-faced" in teaching, he is an enthusiastic "red-faced parent" in life. .

A novice student encountered a bottleneck period in flight technology, and his psychological pressure was so great that he almost collapsed. Wang Yong saw that his mental state was not right, so he took the initiative to talk to him and use his flight experience to encourage him to break through.

Later, this student often consulted Wang Yong about flying skills and was diligent and able to make up for his weaknesses. In the final aircraft carrier qualification assessment, he succeeded in counterattack and won the first place.

"A lot of students are much better than I was back then, and they have participated in many special combat missions." Wang Yong said to his students as much as possible. "Seeing them flying well makes me even happier than I am flying." In just over a year. Wang Yong successively participated in the formulation of the J-15 flight training program and flight manual, and realized the rapid introduction of carrier-based pilot training.

The "Flying Shark" team is getting younger and younger, and this record is constantly being broken by newcomers brought out by Wang Yong.

Road to a strong army: growing up with the motherland

In 2000, Wang Yong was admitted to the Changchun Flight Academy of the Air Force. The first time he touched the plane was an old propeller plane, and the airstrip was grass; now Wang Yong can fly a J-15 fighter jet over the blue sea, guarding like an eagle. Every inch of land in the motherland.

I remember the first time I drove the J-15 fighter, Wang Yong's hand carefully stroked the skin of the "Flying Shark" and took a photo with the plane excitedly.

Now that he has successfully passed the aircraft carrier qualification assessment, his flight trajectory has also moved from yellow water to deep blue, flying to a wider sky.

He has participated in many major tasks such as the air refueling training of the J-15 fighter, the first live firing of the Liaoning ship, and the first crossing of the Miyako Strait by the Liaoning fleet to break through the first island chain. This "sea and air eagle" is constantly challenging itself. At the same time, they have also witnessed the wonderful moments of the Chinese aircraft carrier's rising combat effectiveness.

"The changes in equipment are all visible to everyone. What makes me more excited is that the concept is changing. Now our training is getting closer and closer to actual combat. We are training for war, and we must be able to fight and win wars!" Wang Yong said in peacetime. In the teaching, the students' combat awareness is also constantly cultivated. Once on the plane, they enter the battlefield. They can't relax at all, so that "the one who can fight, the one who fights will win" is truly engraved in the hearts of every soldier.
