Flensburg (dpa / lno) - Due to the defusing of an aircraft bomb in Flensburg, the extensive evacuation of the area around Eckener Platz has been running since Saturday morning.

A total of 16,500 residents have to leave the affected area by noon, as city spokesman Clemens Teschendorf told the German Press Agency.

Shuttle buses would take people to emergency shelters.

"But the weather is so good that many people don't even have to go to the accommodations because they are out and about anyway," explained Teschendorf.

According to Teschendorf, the Flensburg police made announcements on Saturday morning and made sure that people really leave the affected area.

The bomb disposal was then scheduled for 2 p.m.

The closure is expected to be lifted in the early evening.
