• Internal elections Susana Díaz will have to leave the leadership of the PSOE-A when she formalizes her candidacy for the primaries

  • Primary Pedro Sánchez opens the war with Susana Díaz to cover the collapse in Madrid

  • Profile Juan Espadas: Ferraz's striker against Susana Díaz, the last anti-sanchista

"I am not a

spontaneous

", says, even indignant, Luis Ángel Hierro when asked about his irruption in the primaries called in the Andalusian PSOE to choose the future candidate for the Junta de Andalucía. Hierro, historical of Sevillian socialism (affiliated since 1976), has announced his intention to measure himself with Susana Díaz and Juan Espadas in the process that will culminate on June 13, which would turn -as long as it obtains the 900 necessary guarantees- the duel between the

rebellious

secretary general and the candidate of Ferraz in a fight to three. Of course, the third would be, at least

a priori

, a minor rival.

Professor of Economics at the University of Seville, he is not new to the elementary school. In fact, he already jumped into the ring in 2011 and tried to appear in the primaries that in 2011 elected the candidate for the Presidency of the Government against the winner of that process, Alfredo Pérez Rubalcaba. But that, Hierro tells EL MUNDO, was different, just a way of

drawing attention

to how impossible it was to participate. Now, he affirms emphatically, it is the first time that he is presented, seriously, to a primary process and believes, or so he affirms, that he has real possibilities

Hierro assures that behind him he has many of those who, like himself, supported Pedro Sánchez from the first moment, old

Sanchistas

who defended the role of

militancy

and the value of the primaries and who do not feel that they represent the candidate chosen by the federal address, the mayor of Seville, Juan Espadas.

"We cannot present a profile similar to that of [Juanma] Moreno Bonilla, the vote of the left will not be activated," explains the aspiring candidate, who is committed to a

more left-wing

and Andalusian

profile

that attracts the "defrauded "with Podemos or Adelante Andalucía, some of whom, he adds, have already managed to attract.

The failure of Ángel Gabilondo's candidacy in Madrid on the 4th, he points out, "has shown that this is not the way and that you have to take the vote of the

discouraged

left

."

Something that with Espadas does not believe possible.

Of Susana Díaz he says that "he doesn't have the

pull

we need", but above all he refers to Espadas and it is no coincidence.

Andalusia Socialist!

Luis Ángel Hierro and the current behind him -of unknown

size-

,

Andalusian Socialist!

, vindicate the

original

sanchismo

and vindicate themselves as the first to join that project against those who have become hooked later, such as the mayor of Seville.

And that could be, precisely, a problem - we will see to what extent - for the candidacy of Espadas, which will be officially presented tomorrow in Granada, since it may subtract votes.

Especially among that 37% of the Andalusian PSOE militancy that

Sanchismo

considers to be their starting base in this final contest against Susana Díaz precipitated after the Madrid debacle.

Any vote that Hierro scratches from this

Sanchista

mattress

can complicate things for the candidate supported by Ferraz and Moncloa, even if they publicly insist on proclaiming their neutrality.

So much so that the appearance on the scene of the veteran Sevillian socialist has been received with some

satisfaction

among those who support Susana Díaz for the expectation that he can divide the

Sanchista

vote

, something that would undoubtedly benefit the former president of the Board, although not you can calculate whether it would be enough in a battle where you appear to be at a disadvantage.

Meanwhile, among those who support the mayor of Seville, they do not give too much importance to the candidacy, to be confirmed, of Hierro, behind which they even see some

personal

animosity

towards Espadas.

The sources consulted have no doubts, yes, that he will achieve the guarantees, although with the help of Díaz.

These sources do not believe that the general secretary of the PSOE-A is behind the appearance of this third candidate, but they are convinced that he will take advantage of the circumstance. Hierro could, they admit,

subtract votes

from Espadas, but that, they assert, will not tip the balance as they will be "insignificant."

According to the

calendar

of the primaries, the formalization of the candidatures will be carried out on May 9 and 10 and the guarantees may be presented from 12 to 25. In this way, that day, the 25, after the verification and counting of the supports, the candidates will be proclaimed provisionally and four days later definitively.

The campaign among the 40,000 Andalusian militants will last from May 30 to June 12 and on the 13th the vote will be held in the first round.

The second round would be a week later and on the 25th, the definitive proclamation of the candidate for the Presidency of the Junta de Andalucía.
