Erfurt / Weimar (dpa / th) - For artistic freedom and cultural diversity, against hatred and right-wing extremism: On the anniversary of the liberation from National Socialism, various Thuringian associations, unions and initiatives called for special actions on May 8th (Saturday).

With "Gold instead of brown" a golden band should run through Erfurt.

For this purpose, various institutions, but also individuals, hang gold-colored rescue blankets on building facades, as the permanent cultural representation announced.

According to the organizers, the rescue blankets are a connecting element between cultural institutions and those active in art and culture - and they also stand for the rescue of refugees on the shores of the Mediterranean.

The # SolidarischesThüringen network calls for people to come to the cathedral square of the state capital with umbrellas between 2.30 p.m. and 4.00 p.m.

The umbrellas should symbolize a victory sign against fascism and stand for solidarity, especially in the pandemic.

There, too, gold-colored blankets and posters are used, as emerged from a communication from the German National Theater - a campaign signatory.
