On Wednesday, a demonstration of high school students degenerated in Béziers (Hérault).

Containers were burned, and various projectiles, stones, cans or eggs, were thrown at the police, reports the prosecutor, Raphaël Balland.

Firefighters, who were responding to a fire, were also targeted.

Three high school students, aged 16 and educated at the Lycée Jean-Moulin, had been arrested and placed in police custody.

This Friday, they were indicted, says the prosecutor.

None of the three teenagers had so far been convicted by the courts.

Violence and degradation

One of them will soon have to respond to justice for “violence against people holding public authority” and “damage to property by fire”.

The high school student only admitted that he had participated in the setting on fire of garbage containers, but he denied any projection of objects at the police.

Another high school student was also indicted for "violence against people holding public authority" and "insults" against the same police officers.

He is suspected of having insulted them during his arrest.

He only admitted to having thrown a handful of small stones at the police once, and said he insulted them without knowing their function.

A third is also suspected of “violence against people holding public authority”.

He admitted the facts during his custody, claiming to have "done like everyone else", indicates the prosecutor, and that he regretted his behavior.

The juvenile judge ordered, for the last two, "a measure of penal reparation", with "concrete steps for educational purposes (...) to become aware of the seriousness of the offenses committed and their consequences".
