- We have received a record number of calls in recent weeks from veterinarians who are worried about facing animal owners and sick animals and that you should not be able to do what you normally do, says Tove Särkinen who is responsible for communications at the Veterinary Association.

We recently told you that Evidensia plans to close the emergency room on call for small animals at its hospital in Strömsholm.

Killing instead of care

The background is the ongoing pandemic that has led to high sickness rates and difficulty coping with staffing.

- It is an extremely worrying situation.

There may be a situation where you may have to kill the animal instead of caring.

Work environment problems in the industry

The Swedish Board of Agriculture wants more veterinarians to be trained in Sweden to cope with the increased need for veterinary care.

The union partly agrees but sees a number of other problems with the veterinarians' working environment in veterinary care, problems that they believe are more urgent to solve.

- A large proportion, up to 43 percent of veterinarians in Sweden work part-time, shows a survey from 2019. How do we make them want and have the strength?

asks Tove Särkinen.
