Potsdam (dpa / bb) - Brandenburg's SPD parliamentary group leader Erik Stohn is urging for the planned vaccinations for children over 12 years that additional vaccine should only be delivered to countries with an early start of summer vacation.

"In this way we can succeed in vaccinating 150,000 young people before the start of the holiday or at the latest in the first days of the holiday," Stohn announced on Friday.

The federal and state governments want to prepare a vaccination campaign for children over 12 years of age during the summer holidays.

Federal Minister of Health Jens Spahn (CDU) considers EU approval of the vaccine from Biontech and Pfizer for 12 to 15 year olds in June to be likely.

The preparation is currently approved for people aged 16 and over.

Brandenburg must decide whether there should be a targeted invitation to the vaccination centers, series vaccinations in schools or the involvement of the doctor's practices, said Stohn.

"The logistical concept has to be in place by the beginning of June."

He asked the vaccination staff in the CDU-led Interior Ministry to clarify the question quickly.

The summer holidays in Brandenburg and Berlin start on June 24th, Schleswig-Holstein and Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania are earlier with the holidays start on June 21st.

In Brandenburg, at least every third adult has received a corona vaccination so far - according to the Interior Ministry, that is just under 706,000 people.

Around 225,000 people are fully vaccinated.
