07 May 2021 Yet another tragedy at work. The accident occurred in a feed company in Sorbolo, a municipality in the lower Parma area. Andrea Recchia, a 37-year-old worker, originally from Basilicata, died crushed by a container full of animal feed weighing several quintals, according to an initial reconstruction of the events that took place last night, around 9.30 pm. In addition to the 118 vehicles, the carabinieri and occupational medicine intervened and seized the area.

"Yet another tragedy at work. A young life broken, last night, in a business on the outskirts of Sorbolo. These are news that leave a lot of dismay. We are close to the family in this terrible tragedy" the words of the mayor of Sorbolo-Mezzani Nicola Cesari.

"A nice and sunny boy, so we will remember him", wrote, in a post on Facebook, Piero Marrese, mayor of Montalbano Jonico (Matera), a Lucanian town of which Andrea Recchia was originally from. "I express - added the mayor - my closeness and that of the whole Montalbanese community to the Recchia family for the sudden and unexpected loss of Andrea due to an accident in the workplace".

The numbers of the tragedy

The echo of the dramatic case of the death of Luana D'Orazio, who died at 22 because she was sucked into a press while working in a textile company in Montemurlo, in the province of Prato, has not yet died out, other deaths have updated the sad balance. The picture drawn by Inail on the first quarter of 2021 speaks for itself: the reports of accidents at work with a fatal outcome presented to the institute by March were 185, 19 more than the 166 registered in the first quarter of 2020 (+ 11.4%), effect, underlines Inail, of the increases observed in all the months of 2021 compared to those of 2020. Basically,

two people die every day while doing their work

.

On Saturday, on the occasion of Labor Day, the complaint had come strong from the unions: "Last year over 2000 workers died, 185 died in the first three months of 2021. We expect zero deaths at work".

At the national level, the data collected by Inail as of March 31 show a decrease for the first quarter only in cases in progress, while going to the workplace, which went from 52 to 31, while those occurred during the shift were 40 in more (114 to 154). The territorial analysis shows an increase of two fatal cases in the North-West (from 45 to 47), of four in the North-East (from 34 to 38) and of 11 cases both in the Center (from 23 to 34) and in the South. (47 to 58). In the islands, on the other hand, there is a decrease of nine deaths (from 17 to 8). The regions with the most consistent increase are Lazio (+12 cases), Abruzzo (+8), Lombardy (+6) and Campania (+5), those with the greatest decrease in Sicily (-7 cases ), Piedmont and Puglia (-4 deaths for both). Since the beginning of the pandemic, theInail also counts the case reports of those who died after contracting the virus at work, which from March 2020 to March 2021 were 551, of which 82.8% were men.
