Brandenburg / Havel (dpa) - In the wage conflict between the metal and electrical industries in Saxony, Brandenburg and Berlin, no agreement was reached in the sixth round of negotiations by early Friday evening.

The talks continued, said a spokeswoman for IG Metall.

A final result was not expected.

For the union, the negotiations are about harmonizing working conditions in East and West.

According to IG Metall, employees in the eastern federal states work three hours more per week than their colleagues in the west for the same salary.

Calculated on the hourly rate, the difference in wages is 8.5 percent, which IG Metall demands in a "collective adjustment allowance".

In previous negotiations, the employers had insisted on accepting the pilot degree for the metal and electrical industry achieved in North Rhine-Westphalia without any further harmonization.

IG Metall, on the other hand, proposes a step model with first steps towards harmonization.

She had announced that it would be agreed in house collective agreements if necessary, starting with car manufacturers and their suppliers.

In the past few weeks, IG Metall had repeatedly called for all-day warning strikes and rallies in all three federal states.

Thousands of employees followed suit.
