Berlin (dpa) - The federal government will remove other popular holiday areas abroad from the corona risk list on Sunday due to the sharp drop in infection numbers.
Anyone entering Germany from Malta or the Portuguese Algarve no longer has to be in quarantine.
The Robert Koch Institute announced this on its website on Friday.
For the Algarve, however, the effects are initially minor, because there is an entry ban for German tourists due to the high number of infections in this country.
Poland will be downgraded from high incidence to risk area on Sunday.
This eliminates the compulsory corona test before entering the country by land from the neighboring country bordering Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, Brandenburg and Saxony.
It is then enough if you can be tested up to 48 hours after entering the country.

The classification as a corona risk area occurs if the number of new infections exceeds 50 per 100,000 inhabitants (seven-day incidence) in one week.
This currently applies to most of Europe.
Travelers from risk areas must be in quarantine for ten days after their arrival in Germany, which can be shortened by a negative test after five days.
With a new regulation coming into force in the next few days, fully vaccinated and convalescent people are exempt from quarantine.
In Europe, only a few classic holiday areas have so far been removed from the risk list, above all Mallorca, but also the other Balearic Islands and the coastal regions of Murcia and Valencia on the Spanish mainland.
With Malta and the Algarve, two more will be added on Sunday.
In addition, Albania, a total of three regions in Finland and Norway and the British Falkland Islands off the Argentine coast will no longer be risk areas.
German tourists are allowed to enter Malta if they present a negative PCR test that is not older than 72 hours upon arrival.
Hotels are allowed to open and accommodate tourists.
Nevertheless, there are restrictions in the facilities: swimming areas and playgrounds are closed.
However, many accommodations have postponed their opening for the time being due to a lack of guests.

In Portugal, the entry rules are stricter: unnecessary tourist trips from countries with a 14-day incidence of over 150 are still not permitted by the government in Lisbon.
One of these countries is Germany, which, according to the latest information from the EU health authority ECDC, has a value of over 327.
Further changes in the federal government's ratings from Sunday:
- Costa Rica, Georgia, the Maldives and Nepal are upgraded to high incidence areas with more than 200 new infections per 100,000 inhabitants within seven days.
However, this has no impact on travelers, as air travelers are required to test upon entry anyway.
Nothing will change in the quarantine.

- In addition to Poland, Hungary, Armenia and Montenegro are downgraded from high incidence and risk areas.
For all four countries there are only practical changes when entering by land.
In this case, the obligation to test does not apply when entering the country.
- New risk areas are Malaysia, Anguilla in the Caribbean and a region in Norway.
The quarantine obligation applies here from Sunday when entering Germany.
