More than 45 years have passed since the so-called BT Chemistry scandal in Teckomatorp was discovered.

Bad smell, dead plants and polluted water worried many locals, but despite this the population increased by 84 people between 1975 and 1980, figures from Statistics Sweden show.

One of those who moved there in 1980 was Lena Olsson.

- The houses had fallen in price very much here so then it was easy to get their first house here, says Lena Olsson.

Feeling anxious today

She was then in her 20s and did not feel worried about living in Teckomatorp.

- When I visited some friends in Lund, they asked if I dared to eat the vegetables in the garden land and I did.

Today, Lena Olsson views the event differently.

Despite the fact that four decades have passed, the scandal is still felt in society, among other things through the smell from the last decontamination of the contaminated land that is currently taking place.

- You are worried about this smell that comes some days.

The smell here is really intrusive sometimes so you can not have the windows open.

Hear Lena Olsson describe the smell and how she feels about the scandal today in the clip above.
