Vilamoura / Portugal (dpa / lno) - The sailing crew Theres Dahnke and Matti Cipra won the mixed silver medal at the 470 European Championship in Portugal on Friday.

The new discipline will celebrate its Olympic premiere in France in 2024.

The just formed duo from Kiel want to qualify for this.

Daniel Göttlich and Anna Markfort from Berlin came fifth in the field of 81 teams from 25 countries.

"At this early point in time, the teams have already established a strong starting position on the Marseille 2024 course," said DSV sports director Nadine Stegenwalner (Kiel).

After a turbulent start, Luise Wanser / Anastasiya Winkel (North German Regatta Club) finished eighth in the EM field of this summer's Olympic disciplines.

Among the men, Simon Diesch / Philipp Autenrieth (Deggenhausertal / Augsburg) were the best DSV crew as ninth.

The titles were secured at the open European Championship in mixed Nitai Hasson / Saar Tamir from Israel, Camille Lecointre / Aloise Retornaz from France for women and Paul Snow-Hansen / Daniel Wilcox from New Zealand for men.
