Dresden (dpa / sn) - Last year, customs seized 2.7 tons of narcotics, eleven million cigarettes and plagiarism worth 100 million euros in the Dresden and Leipzig regions.

According to the main customs office in Dresden on Friday, the damage determined in the course of the illegal work financial control added up to 33 million euros.

In addition, more than 1.8 billion euros were levied in taxes and duties - a good half of them on imports, the rest in connection with energy, tobacco, alcohol and vehicle taxes.

Compared to the previous year, the customs officers discovered almost a third more drugs, especially synthetic drugs such as crystal or amphetamines.

In addition to cigarettes, more than 65 kilos of smoke and a ton of water pipe tobacco were confiscated.

The amount in the area of ​​brand and product piracy added up to more than a million confiscated goods - almost twice as much as in 2019. The drugs and plagiarism were mainly discovered in postal and express shipments at Leipzig Airport.

In addition, customs officers seized more than 2,000 species-protected animals and plants and goods made from them in 166 cases, again more than in the previous year.

Half of these were products made of ivory.

According to the information, more than 1,300 employers were checked in connection with undeclared work, and around 4,300 criminal proceedings and 700 administrative fines were subsequently initiated.
