Tunisia announced a comprehensive quarantine for a week in an effort to contain the outbreak of the Corona virus, and while India recorded a new record number of infections, the number of people infected with the disease in Turkey is declining.

Tunisian Prime Minister Hicham El-Mechichi announced during a press conference today, Friday, a comprehensive quarantine for a week, starting tomorrow, Saturday, May 9, and continuing until the 16th of the same month, and covering the period of Eid al-Fitr, which usually witnesses heavy movement of citizens.

Al-Mashishi described the health situation in the country as embarrassing, and warned of the collapse of the health system, stressing that the comprehensive ban has become necessary despite its economic and social cost, after the unprecedented increase in the number of injuries and deaths in the country as a result of the virus.

During the same press conference, government spokeswoman Hasna Benslimane announced measures that would be implemented within the framework of comprehensive quarantine, including preventing movement between governorates and banning various activities, including family celebrations.

The daily death toll in Tunisia has recently exceeded 100 cases per day, in addition to the daily rate of injuries in the range of 1500.

A new record in India

In India, the number of Coronavirus infections today recorded a new record, which is the highest in the world, as the number of new infections exceeded 414,000, and the number of deaths approached 4 thousand cases, in a daily toll that is the highest in the world.

The weekly toll recorded large numbers, as last week more than 1.5 million injuries reached, and the number of deaths in the same period exceeded 15,000.

Thus, the total number of injuries so far in India has exceeded 21.5 million, while the total number of deaths exceeded 243 thousand deaths.

Frightening numbers of injuries and deaths continue to be recorded, while Prime Minister Narendra Modi is under internal pressure to announce a complete closure to contain the dangerous epidemiological situation that prompted several countries in the world to intervene to help India, especially providing it with oxygen.

Japan extends emergency

In Japan, 80 days before the Olympic Games, Prime Minister Yoshihide Suga announced today that the state of emergency in the country, which was imposed again at the end of last April in 4 provinces, including Tokyo, to limit the spread of Corona, will be extended for 3 weeks until May 31.

In a press statement, Suga said that the number of new infections is high in major cities, adding that hospitals are still overcrowded in the western provinces of the country.

In addition to Tokyo, which is supposed to host the Olympic Games, and 3 other regions, which are Osaka, Kyoto and Hyogo (west), a state of emergency was imposed in two other administrations, Aichi (center) and Fukuoka (southwest), according to Suga.

The country is currently recording more than 5 thousand daily infections, while the epidemic has caused the death of more than 10 thousand people since the beginning of 2020.

As the vaccination campaign slows in Japan, where it has so far only covered 2.2% of the population, tens of millions of unused doses of anti-Corona vaccines will soon accumulate.

Numbers of the world

In other regions of the world, Brazil recorded, on Thursday, more than 73,000 new cases of Corona, exceeding the total of 15 million in the largest country in Latin America.

An additional 2,550 deaths were recorded from the Corona virus, bringing the official number of deaths to about 417,000.

In China, the National Health Committee said today that it counted 13 new cases of Coronavirus, compared with 5 cases the previous day.

In Europe, while relatively high numbers of injuries and deaths continue to be recorded in the west of the continent, officials in Germany have warned of urgency in lifting the restrictions imposed to contain the outbreak of the epidemic.

In the Arab world, more than 500 injuries and 12 deaths were announced in the Palestinian territories during the past 24 hours.

Scientific recommendation in Britain

British officials said today that those under the age of 40 should receive an anti-corona virus vaccine other than "AstraZeneca" whenever possible due to the low possibility of exposure to blood clots, in light of the decline in infection with the Corona virus and the abundance of other vaccines.

Patents

On the other hand, the German company "BioNTech" said that patents for anti-corona virus vaccines do not stand in the way of the distribution or production of the vaccine that the company developed in cooperation with "Pfizer".

The company stressed - in a statement - that patents are not what hinders the provision of its vaccine.

This announcement comes after the United States' call to cancel patents for vaccines against Corona virus.
