May 08, 2021The freedom for Domenico D'Andrea, 38, a life sentence inmate who escaped yesterday morning, Friday, from the Perugia prison while working in an area outside the prison did not last long. At the end of the day, the police tracked him down and arrested him in a grove in the Prepo area, not too far from Capanne where the detention facility is located. It was blocked by the mobile police squad. It seems that D'Andrea, known by the nickname of Pippotto, was alone.

The man benefited from article 21 of the prison system, which also admits life prisoners to work outside the detention facilities, "after the expiation of at least ten years". The investigators are still reconstructing the dynamics of the evasion.

The alarm went off when the agents noticed D'Andrea's absence. The hypothesis is that he may have bypassed the fencing of the area where he worked and was housed. The flight may have been linked to fears of a possible revocation of the external job. It is not yet clear whether any accomplice has facilitated the evasion. As soon as the alarm was raised, a real manhunt was launched with all the police forces involved, also assisted by a helicopter.

For Sappe, the escape was "the result of the superficiality with which the many complaints made by the Autonomous Prison Police Syndicate on the security conditions of the institution, which suffer from a serious shortage of prison police personnel, were treated and managed".

The criminal history of D'Andrea is long, serving a life sentence for the murder of Salvatore Buglione, a municipal employee killed on 4 September 2006 in Naples during an attempted robbery while he was in his wife's newsstand in the neighborhood. hills of Vomero. The man tried to react and was fatally hit with a knife. Four young people took part in the event and among these, as the judges established, there was also 'Pippotto'.

At the age of 13 D'Andrea was accused of being the leader of a gang that robbed mopeds in the Vomero and Arenella districts. He was also wounded in the leg by a carabiniere during a robbery attempt. He was then held responsible for dozens of robberies that took place over the years.
