Xinhua News Agency, Beijing, May 6. President Xi Jinping had a telephone conversation with UN Secretary-General Guterres on the evening of May 6.

Xi Jinping pointed out that in recent years, the United Nations has experienced rare complications, but multilateralism has also received increasing support.

Multilateralism is inseparable from the United Nations, international law, and cooperation between countries.

The world needs true multilateralism.

Countries should act in accordance with the purposes and principles of the UN Charter. They should not engage in unilateralism and hegemonism, and they should not piece together small circles in the name of multilateralism and engage in ideological confrontation.

China will continue to support the work of the United Nations and Secretary-General Guterres and uphold true multilateralism.

Xi Jinping emphasized that the most important task of the international community is still to fight the new crown pneumonia epidemic.

The world must strengthen cooperation and not engage in political manipulation.

Big countries must set an example and provide more public goods.

China has successively provided vaccine assistance to more than 80 developing countries and exported vaccines to more than 50 countries.

China has decided to provide vaccines to the UN peacekeeping operations and the International Olympic Committee, and will continue to actively support the "New Coronary Pneumonia Vaccine Implementation Plan" and make continuous efforts to eliminate the "immunization gap."

Xi Jinping pointed out that the global response to climate change is a major event.

China announced that it will strive to achieve the peak of carbon dioxide emissions by 2030 and carbon neutrality by 2060, which is much shorter than the time taken by developed countries.

This is China's initiative, not a passive action.

Actions speak louder than words.

China will make its utmost efforts and contributions to address climate change based on actual conditions, and is willing to continue to actively promote international cooperation in accordance with the principle of common but differentiated responsibilities.

Xi Jinping emphasized that China does its best to carry out South-South cooperation and provide assistance to developing countries. This is China's consistent approach and its moral responsibility.

Many of China's initiatives, especially the joint construction of the "Belt and Road", are based on such considerations.

The Chinese say what they say, and they must do what they say.

Xi Jinping pointed out that this year marks the 100th anniversary of the founding of the Communist Party of China. China has achieved an all-round victory in poverty alleviation, achieved major strategic results in building a moderately prosperous society in an all-round way, and embarked on a new journey of building a modern socialist country in an all-round way.

This year marks the 50th anniversary of New China's restoration of its legal seat in the United Nations. China will hold a grand commemorative event.

China is willing to strengthen cooperation with the United Nations and continue to promote the implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.

Guterres congratulated the Communist Party of China on its centennial birthday and the 50th anniversary of the restoration of New China’s legal seat in the United Nations. He said that the United Nations highly appreciates China’s great achievements in getting rid of poverty, highly appreciates China’s firm support for multilateralism and the work of the United Nations, appreciates China’s declared nationally determined contribution targets and major measures to address global climate change, and thanks China for serving the international community. Anti-epidemic cooperation, in particular, is an important contribution to realizing the fair distribution of new crown vaccines in developing countries and promoting the recovery and growth of the world economy. I fully agree that all countries should pursue true multilateralism based on the UN Charter and international law. China is vital to the international multilateral system. The United Nations looks forward to closer cooperation with China in the areas of world peace and security, biodiversity protection, climate change response, and helping developing countries achieve sustainable development, and push the relationship between the United Nations and China to a new level.
