07 May 2021Vibo Valentia is the "Italian Capital of the Book" 2021. The announcement of the Minister of Culture, Dario Franceschini, after having received the designation from the jury chaired by Romano Montroni.

With Vibo there were Ariano Irpino, Caltanissetta, Campobasso, Cesena and Pontremoli.

The winning city will receive from the Ministry of Culture, through the Center for Book and Reading, a contribution of 500 thousand euros to carry out a project.

The Italian Book Capital was established by Franceschini in 2020 for the promotion and support of reading. The title of the first edition was conferred by the Council of Ministers, on the proposal of the Minister of Culture, to the municipality of Chiari, in the province of Brescia, one of the countries most affected by the Covid-19 epidemic that found in the hardest months of the lockdown precisely in reading, through the administration's social channels, one of the tools to support the community.

"We decided unanimously", explained Montroni: "The projects we saw were fantastic: the book capitals serve to defend the space of books and reading. Without books and therefore without culture there can be no cultural and economic rebirth" .

Vibo Valentia is the Italian Capital of Book 2021!

A beautiful competition: 23 cities, 6 finalists one winner.
