The spread of covid-19 has decreased in recent weeks in the county, and the number of hospitalized people is also declining.

- We see that there has been a decrease in the spread of infection and we see a clear reduction in patients in the wards.

But in intensive care there is still high pressure and we are dependent on patients being cared for in other hospitals.

We hope that we can see a reduction there in a week or so, says Mats Bojestig, director of health and medical care.

Can you see the light in the tunnel?

- Yes, absolutely, we really hope so.

It is not possible to shout hello yet, but we have received good vaccination coverage for those over 65 and it is starting to affect who we have admitted to hospital now, he says.

Endemic

In the county, we may now be about to leave the pandemic and move on to endemic instead.

According to the Swedish Public Health Agency, a pandemic means that a new type of influenza virus is spreading and infecting people in large parts of the world, something that often has major consequences in society.

An edema instead means that outbreaks occur only sporadically in limited parts of the population.

- During the autumn, you can probably count on us not being in a pandemic.

But it is based on us helping each other now and following the restrictions until midsummer at least, so we can reduce the spread of infection.

How well it goes also depends on us getting vaccinated, says Mats Bojestig.
