A local court paved the way for the adoption of children by gay couples.

Their names are Mladen Kovic and Ivo Segota, several years ago they got used to reading their own names in the newspapers in a country where it is difficult to publicly display one's homosexuality.
They are not married since they do not have the right to be a gay couple, but they have registered a "
life partnership
".
They want to have a child, but in 2016, a social assistance center denies their request, concluding that adoption by same-sex partners is not in the best interests of the child.
After three years of struggle, they manage to be recognized as a host family in 2020.
Discrimination in their adoption request
And finally, a little over a week ago, the Zagreb Administrative Court ruled that the reasons given by the social assistance center for rejecting the adoption request were not sufficient.
Same-sex couples should not be discriminated against in applying for adoption.
When this almost unexpected victory was announced, Mladen Kovic and Ivo Segota first consulted the social workers of the two boys aged 7 and 5 whom they have been welcoming since last September.
Croatia could therefore become the fifteenth country out of 27 in the European Union to allow adoption to gay couples.
