Berlin / Brandenburg (dpa) - For a brief moment, winter caught up with the people in Berlin and Brandenburg - and that in the middle of May.

In Potsdam and Berlin, large snowflakes fell on the windshields and flower beds on Friday morning, causing some incredulous astonishment.

A user on Twitter wrote that he believed his calendar was wrong, and even a spokesman for the German Weather Service (DWD) admitted: "We did not predict this to the extent that it was a bit surprised ourselves."

Since May 1983, the weather station in Potsdam has only reported snow three times a month, the spokesman said.

The fact that it is now snowing is not a consequence of climate change, but a normal weather phenomenon: A low moving eastward brings very damp and cold air with it.

According to the DWD, one degree was measured on Friday afternoon in Potsdam and two to three degrees in Berlin.

But there is no real snowy landscape: the ground is too warm for that, as the DWD spokesman explained.

According to the forecast, the weather fluctuations will continue in the coming hours and days.

From Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, showers and individual thunderstorms with sleet should move over the Prignitz and then over most of Brandenburg on Friday afternoon and afternoon.

It should be a maximum of ten degrees on Friday.

On the weekend, the big contrast program will probably come: for Sunday, more than 25 degrees are announced in many places.

This is to be ensured by warm air moving from Spain and North Africa to Germany.

On Monday it should even be up to 29 Gard.
