Berlin (dpa / bb) - From the point of view of Berlin parents' representatives, a further expansion of daycare care would be desirable.

As of Monday (May 10th) there will be a general right for all children over the age of four in addition to the previous emergency care.

"For us this is just an intermediate step," said the chairman of the state parents' committee for day-care centers, Nancy Schulze, of the German press agency.

"The majority of these children are already in daycare due to the long list of systemic importance."

The daycare centers in Berlin have been closed since the second week of April and only offer emergency care. So far, it has applied, among other things, to preschool children and children from families who are urgently dependent on it and in which at least one parent works in a particularly important, so-called system-relevant occupation. Schulze said further opening is a positive goal. "But we don't want to get rid of this for the devil, health protection must be guaranteed for everyone."

The parents' representative criticized the fact that so far there have only been "event-related" corona tests for children in the daycare centers.

Schulze advocates regular tests, twice a week like at school.

"So that you have a better overview."

It is also questionable how well the children accepted the previously planned stick tests.

"With lollipop tests, the acceptance would be greater," said Schulze.
