Plön (dpa / lno) - Criminals disguised as police officers have stolen a large sum from a senior citizen in the Plön district.

The police said on Friday that they had convinced the 78-year-old woman in phone calls to hand them over the items with a value of more than 100,000 euros.

To do this, the woman brought the things home from her safe deposit box.

The fraudsters had argued that an arrested person had personal data of the elderly woman and was in contact with bank employees who had already accessed customers' accounts and lockers.

The fake police officers later picked up the valuables from the woman.

The criminal police were able to stop even more far-reaching fraud by blocking an account after receiving information.

The perpetrators had also tricked the woman into transferring a large amount of money to a credit card account.

Using a technical trick by the fraudsters, the phone number of the local police station appeared on the victim's phone screen.

The senior citizen was always sworn to secrecy during the talks.
