Penkun / Würzburg (dpa) - A car driver from Bavaria, whose driver's license was revoked 17 years ago, was blown up while driving in Western Pomerania towards Poland.

As a spokesman for the federal police said on Friday, the 50-year-old from Kitzingen was checked on Thursday on the Autobahn 11 Berlin-Stettin near Penkun (Vorpommern-Greifswald).

The driver's license query showed that the man had been confiscated by the Würzburg police in 2004 after various violations, both papers and the car keys.

Now the 50-year-old had a spare key with which he set off on the 700-kilometer journey in his car.

A drug pre-test showed that the driver was probably driving under the influence of drugs.
