Stuttgart (dpa / lsw) - The Baden-Württemberg municipalities lost their trade tax income in 2020 as a result of the Corona crisis.

They fell by 19 percent to 6.4 billion euros, as the State Statistical Office announced on Friday in Stuttgart.

After deducting the trade tax apportionment, they had 5.8 billion euros at their disposal, which is 734 million euros less than in 2019. A decrease of 11.1 percent.

The economy had already weakened in 2019.

The municipalities levy trade tax on the profit of a company.

Freelancers don't have to pay them.

In the individual rural and urban districts, there were clear differences in the development of trade tax revenues.

There were districts in which the net income from trade tax increased, such as in Freiburg (plus 1.3 percent) or, for example, in the districts of Neckar-Odenwald-Kreis (plus 7.3 percent) or Heidenheim (plus 7.0 percent ).

The districts of Ludwigsburg (minus 30.5 percent) and Esslingen (minus 25.0 percent) recorded the highest decreases.

In the urban districts, net income from trade tax fell significantly, especially in Stuttgart (minus 21.4 percent), Karlsruhe (minus 20.4 percent) and Heilbronn (minus 19.2 percent).
