“I am extending for one year the regime of the national emergency, announced in connection with the actions of the Syrian government,” the decree says.

It is noted that the emergency regime related to Syria was announced on May 11, 2004.

As RIA Novosti clarifies, the extension of the emergency regime allows the United States to continue blocking the property and assets of a number of persons associated with the Syrian government, and to prohibit the export of certain goods to this country.

Earlier, State Department spokesman Ned Price said that the US position towards Syrian President Bashar al-Assad has not changed: Washington considers him responsible for "killing his own people" and "indiscriminate violence."
