Rendsburg (dpa / lno) - The poultry industry association Schleswig-Holstein and Hamburg has criticized the inconsistent approach to protective measures against avian influenza.

Previously, the compulsory stable had been completely lifted in the Schleswig-Flensburg and Segeberg districts.

The districts of Pinneberg, Nordfriesland, Plön and Ostholstein, on the other hand, had relaxed their stable requirements and only maintained them near bodies of water.

"We would have liked a nationwide uniform approach," said the chairman of the association, Hans-Peter Goldnick, on Thursday.

In Schleswig-Holstein, the state-wide compulsory stable had previously been lifted and protective measures against avian influenza were eased.

The background is a decline in the number of infections among wild birds, which varies from region to region, said Agriculture Minister Jan Philipp Albrecht (Greens) on Tuesday in Kiel.

It is therefore the task of the districts to order measures based on the current situation.

Avian influenza, also known as avian flu, is an infectious disease that occurs primarily in waterfowl and other birds.

The arranged housing in stables is intended to prevent the disease from affecting domestic and farm animals.

Schleswig-Holstein is particularly at risk because the state is an important bird migration area.

The spring migration of Nordic waterfowl is also not yet complete.
