Berlin (dpa) - The right to fast internet is a done deal.

The Federal Council adopted a law on Friday according to which all citizens can demand better internet connections for their houses and apartments from mid-2022.

The Federal Network Agency would examine such complaints.

However, the future fixed network minimum level is likely to be so low that this option will probably only be of interest to people in the countryside or on the outskirts.

An authority should make precise values for the download and upload speed as well as the latency - i.e. the reaction speed.

In the download, the lower limit will most likely be below 20 Mbit per second, but the minimum level should be increased year after year.
