Erfurt (dpa / th) - 19 of 22 Thuringian health authorities are now using the so-called Sormas program, for example to facilitate digital contact tracking in the pandemic.

The Ministry of Health in Erfurt announced this at the request of the German Press Agency.

However, they are in contact with the three districts that are not yet connected in order to establish a connection there at short notice.

One of the main reasons why the introduction of Sormas is sometimes slow is the pandemic itself, said a ministry spokeswoman.

In any case, this leads to an increased workload in the health authorities.

Switching to new software in such a phase and training employees accordingly is an additional challenge.

However, the federal government is making resources available, for example for familiarization with the system, in order to keep the effort as low as possible, the spokeswoman reported.

The program also comes from the federal government for free.

According to the information, the Federal Ministry of Health will assume the operating costs until the end of 2022.

Another problem, according to the spokeswoman, is that some health authorities had already procured their own software before Sormas to better cope with the pandemic.

However, the introduction of Sormas is now an obligation for all health authorities in Germany.

"The advantages outweigh."

In the future, all important points will be linked to each other and data will be exchanged via the program.

Laboratories could thus transmit test results directly to health authorities, which in turn could quickly send their data to the Robert Koch Institute in Berlin.

In addition, it should be possible in the future to connect various apps for contact tracking with the system, said the ministry spokeswoman.

"The processes are being simplified, strengthened and bundled."

The civil servants' association dbb had criticized the Sormas program in April because employees of health authorities, for example, complained about the cumbersome handling of the digital data file.
