Mainz (dpa / lrs) - The Rhineland-Palatinate FDP state chairman, Volker Wissing, solicited the delegates' consent to the coalition agreement negotiated jointly with the SPD and the Greens at an online party congress.

In the draft, the handwriting of the Liberals can be clearly felt, he said on Thursday evening.

It is a success that the previous layout of the Ministry of Economics, Transport, Agriculture and Viticulture, led by the FDP, will also be retained in the future state government.

"This bundling of expertise in business and transport is unique and a decisive locational advantage for Rhineland-Palatinate," said Wissing on Thursday evening.

In the new traffic light government, the SPD will again provide five ministers, the Greens and the FDP again two each. Unlike the SPD and the Greens, the FDP has not yet commented on personnel issues. However, it is expected that top candidate Daniela Schmitt will take over the economic department and Herbert Mertin will remain Minister of Justice. In her speech, Schmitt also campaigned for approval of the draft contract. “We want to take responsibility, tackle, shape,” she said. "The contract gives us the opportunity to do so."

The FDP, which was the second strongest force in the first traffic light coalition, received 5.5 percent of the vote in the state elections on March 14, making it the smallest of the three partners in the future.

The SPD, headed by Prime Minister Malu Dreyer, was again the strongest party with 35.7 percent of the vote.

The Greens were able to gain 9.3 percent of the vote.
